OUR CHICKEN

HERITAGE BREED POULTRY

Heritage Breed chickens are hardy dual-purpose breeds, that live and produce eggs longer. They can generally withstand living primarily outdoors in most standard climates. At this time our Egg production comes from
Double laced Barnevelders, Copper Marans and Legbars.

These are all heritage breeds that lay beautiful colourful eggs, that taste even better than they look!

Our chickens are fed a balanced, entirely organic diet as well as scraps from our garden. The chickens roam outside during the day and tucked safely into their coops at night.

In the summer we raise western rustic meat chickens for the freezer. These birds are very hardy and do well in a free-range setting. They grow a little slower than the average meat bird but still yield 5-6 pounds and their meet is tender and tasty.

OUR GOATS

NIGERIAN DWARF GOATS

The Nigerian Dwarf Goat is a small but very well-proportioned little goat. The average weight is around 60-75 pounds and they stand about 24 inches in height. They are excellent diary goats and easy to handle. The average Nigerian dwarf can produce milk for 10 months out of the year and the milk does not have the distinct taste of goat’s milk but actually taste very close to cow’s milk. Each goat can produce 300-500ml of milk per day.

Goat's milk is:
1) Easier to digest than cow's milk. Even some people that are dairy intolerant can drink goat’s milk.
2) Is less allergenic and causes less inflammation.
3) High in calcium, butterfat and protein and low in cholesterol.
4) Your body absorbs its nutrients easier.
5) It's still REAL dairy.
The milk makes excellent yogurt, ice cream, cheese and butter.

The Nigerian Dwarf goat is easy to handle due to its small size and they make excellent companion animals.
